Allen-Bradley® PowerFlex® 70 NEMA 4X AC Drives Meet Durability Demands of Wash-Down Applications and Harsh Production Environments
With flexible mounting and packaging options, drives can resist dust, dirt and high-pressure water sprayMEQUON, Wis., May 27, 2003 Industries that require regular wash-down of equipment or operate in harsh production environments will benefit from the new Allen-Bradley® PowerFlex® 70 NEMA 4X AC drive from Rockwell Automation. Built with the robust performance of the original PowerFlex 70, the PowerFlex 70 NEMA 4X AC drive features a UL-listed and IP66-rated enclosure that protects against high-pressure water spray, corrosion and circulating dust while conforming to National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) international standards for food equipment. The drive is designed to be mounted directly in harsh production environments and can be used in wash-down applications without the need for a custom enclosure. Designed to meet global OEM and end-user demands for space savings, cost efficiency and reliability, PowerFlex 70 NEMA 4X AC drives provide high-performance motor control in a compact, panel-mount package. Features such as volts-per-hertz or sensorless vector control allow users to easily configure the drive for most application needs. With power ratings from .37 kW (0.5 hp) to 15 kW (20 hp), the drives are ideal for a range of manufacturing applications, including food and beverage, pulp and paper, pharmaceutical processing, machine tool and textile.Standard integral I/O. The main control board on the PowerFlex 70 NEMA 4X drive includes built-in digital and analog I/O for added application flexibility. Standard 24V I/O includes six digital inputs, two relay inputs, two analog inputs and one analog output. Virtually trip-free performance. The PowerFlex 70 NEMA 4X active thermal manager helps recognize excessive overload conditions and automatically makes internal adjustments to compensate for temperature fluctuations. This helps minimize drive overheating and decreases downtime. Internal communications. Users can integrate the PowerFlex 70 NEMA 4X drive into the manufacturing process using DeviceNet, ControlNet, Remote I/O, serial communications and other open control and communications networks. Compact, space saving design. The PowerFlex 70 NEMA 4X drive features Zero Stacking design, which allows the drives to be mounted directly next to one another with no reduction of ambient temperature rating (50º C). A standard integral dynamic brake, in the form of a seventh insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT), provides both internal and external dynamic braking resistors and requires no extra panel space. Integral electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) filtering provides a compact, all-in-one package option for meeting EMC requirements, including CE approval in Europe.
