New interface increases openness and range of applications for de factostandard AMS softwareAUSTIN, TEXAS (May 19, 2003) - Emerson Process Management has jointlydeveloped with Trebing & Himstedt (T&H) the ability to communicate withHART(R) devices over a PROFIBUS network, making the functionality of AMSpredictive maintenance software available to a wider range of applications. The extended abilities build on AMS's position as the de facto standard forfield device software, as acknowledged by ARC (Strategies Report Feb 2001).Customers using HART instruments and valves with remote I/O systems on theirPROFIBUS networks now have the ability to use the diagnostics from the HARTcommunication protocol and AMS software to configure, calibrate, anddiagnose faults for improved plant availability and performance. The intelligent field devices are connected to a remote I/O system whichcommunicates with T&H's software interface via the PROFIBUS network andPROFIBUS Gateway hardware. The intelligence from the HART devices istransmitted to AMS through this hardware and software. Additionally, T&H'sPROFIBUS Scope allows customers to configure the PROFIBUS network and can beaccessed directly from within AMS.AMS offers remote access through OPC and AMS Web, an Internet Explorer basedapplication. AMS can interface to CMMS and ERP solutions, using WebServices or OPC, enabling users to take full advantage of field deviceinformation in management decision-making processes. As part of their ongoing commitment to openness, Emerson actively supportsthe efforts of all manufacturers of field devices by making available thetools to fully integrate their devices and advanced diagnostics capabilities into AMS. In this way, Emerson provides added value to AMS users.About Emerson Process ManagementEmerson Process Management (www.emersonprocess.com), an Emerson business, is a leader in helping businesses automate their production, processing anddistribution in the chemical, oil and gas, pulp & paper, power, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, and other industries.
