FKI Logistex Alvey Systems Client Named '2003 New plant of the Year'
Cutting-edge robotics installation helps turn American Italian Pasta Company into food industry award-winner (St. Louis, MO: April 22, 2003) Alvey Systems (www.alvey.com), an FKI Logistex® (LSE: FKI.L) member company and leading integrator of automated material flow solutions, announces that its client, American Italian Pasta Company (AIPC), has been named Food Engineering Magazine's "2003 New Plant of the Year."Based in Kansas City, MO, AIPC is the largest maker of dry pasta in North America, turning out a variety of pasta in more than 175 shapes and sizes. Its customers encompass most major US grocers, food service giant SYSCO, and food processors including Kraft and General Mills. The company received the award for its newest food processing facility, recently opened in Tolleson, AZ. AIPC was selected as the winner from entrants across the food and beverage industry based on a number of factors, including the plant's fast-track construction schedule and effective use of automation technologies to improve productivity. The 23-acre plant features state-of-the-art automated production lines, including cutting-edge robotic technologies from FKI Logistex Alvey Systems. In conjunction with palletizing experts from Alvey, AIPC selected and installed three articulated arm robotic palletizers for the new facility. The robotic palletizers feature sophisticated jointed-arm technology and perform faster than standard robotic gantries, enabling the company to process more than 83 pallets an hour. In addition, key AIPC maintenance and repair workers were hosted at Alvey headquarters in St. Louis, MO, for an in-depth two-week factory training session, providing technicians with a greater understanding of the advanced robotic technology and hands-on troubleshooting experience. The new facility was built on a highly accelerated construction and operational schedule. Construction commenced on April 15, 2002; 185 days later, the first finished goods rolled off the production lines. The 285,000 square foot plant is expected to produce 109 million pounds of pasta per year."We are very pleased that AIPC has been honored as New Plant of the Year," said Steve Ackerman, president of Alvey Systems. "Alvey is proud that its efficient and timely installation of robotic palletizers contributed to their selection as this year's award winner."For more information, please contact Kevin Kozuszek, marketing communications manager for Alvey Systems by calling (314) 993-4700 or via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org; you can also visit Alvey Systems on the web at www.alvey.com.About FKI Logistex Alvey SystemsAlvey Systems (www.alvey.com), an FKI Logistex® member company headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, is a leading integrator of materials handling solutions for consumer goods manufacturers and distributors.
