With the CANbridge, IXXAT offers a Gateway which allows the flexible coupling of CAN networks. Unlike a CAN-Repeater, which only translates the electric signals, the CAN messages are received completely by the CANbridge and then sent to the other CAN network under consideration of filter and conversion rules. The message filters can be defined here for individual CAN identifiers via filter masks. With the aid of conversion rules, CAN messages can be forwarded under another identifier. With these mechanisms, the bus load can be reduced in the individual networks by only sending those messages to the other network that are of interest. The CANbridge has a powerful 16-bit microcontroller that can also process bursts at higher data rates without message loss. The connection to the CAN bus is made by two SJA1000 CAN controllers, supporting 11- and 29-bit identifiers.LEDs signalize the current status of the coupled networks. The additionally available Board-Support-Package provides the most important interface functions and enables users quickly create their own applications. These can then be loaded into the flash memory of the CANbridge via the serial interface. Corresponding protocol stacks are also available for the development of CANopen or DeviceNet applications.
