Milwaukee, Nov. 19, 2003 – AE Solutions and Siemens Energy & Automation have developed a new generation of Fire & Gas alarm and suppression systems. The FGS 1100 Fire & Gas System is a pre-engineered, pre-configured and pre-packaged solution that is FM approved for compliance with NFPA 72. “The FGS 1100 is developed around the QUADLOG Safety PLC which is an ideal logic solver for fire & gas systems,” says John Cusimano, manager of Process Safety Systems for Siemens Energy & Automation. “QUADLOG incorporates special field-wiring diagnostics, critical in fire & gas systems, such as line monitoring and ground fault detection. Furthermore, QUADLOG is configured using the Siemens Safety Matrix cause and effect programming tool which is the perfect tool for simple and straightforward configuration and visualization of a fire & gas alarm/suppression system.”“This approach to fire and gas offers users the security of a purpose built, proprietary fire alarm system but with the openness and flexibility that users have come to expect with modern control systems,” says Ken O’Malley, vice president of Control Systems for AE Solutions. “Existing users of Siemens APACS and QUADLOG hardware will find the FGS 1100 particularly well suited for their applications because they will be able to monitor, configure and maintain their systems using the tools, infrastructure and engineering and maintenance personnel already in place at their facility.” Every FGS 1100 sold has a secondary power supply system as required by NFPA 72 including a battery set and a charger system. The batteries and charger of each installation are engineered for compliance with NFPA 72’s capacity and recharge requirements. Also, as required by NFPA 72, full field wiring diagnostics are provided to detect open circuits, short circuits and ground faults. The system is offered with a variety of I/O modules to support energize and de-energize to trip functionality. Each system may by quickly configured using the Siemens’ Safety Matrix tool running on a PC providing an intuitive, online cause-and-effect style graphical interface.
