China Petrochem Company Selects Honeywell for Advanced Process Control, Optimiser and Operator Training Simulator

Large Joint-Venture Comes Online in 2005PHOENIX, Dec. 09, 2003 - Honeywell (NYSE:HON) Process Solutions today announced that Shanghai SECCO Petrochemicals Company has awarded Honeywell a $6 million contract to implement Advanced Process Control (APC) & Optimization solutions and provide Operator Training Simulator for a new, eight-plant complex coming online in 2005. The APC & Optimization solutions can improve profitability by increasing throughput, reducing costs and improving product quality."The Honeywell Operator Training Simulator will play a critical role in smooth startup and the APC & Optimization solutions will improve our operations in this facility," said Mr. Paul Bowdler, SECCO Production Director "This will be one of the world's most advanced petrochemical facilities. Honeywell provides the depth of experience to prepare our engineers, managers and operators to get peak performance from this facility when we start-up and as we continue operations."The SECCO complex in Shanghai is a $2.7 billion joint venture between BP, China Petroleum, Chemical Corporation (Sinopec Corp.) and Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical Company Ltd (SPC). When operational, the eight plants will produce ethylene (900,000 metric tons per year) and seven derivative products. Honeywell Profit Suite Advanced Process Control (APC) and Optimization solutions will help SECCO to monitor and manage operations throughout the facility. APC enables plant managers and operators to respond to changes in business demands through close linkages with planning, scheduling, and management functions. Honeywell will provide Shadow Plant(tm) Operator Training Simulator for SECCO to train plant engineers, operators and managers in Abnormal Situation Management. ShadowPlant takes individuals through "what-if" scenarios based on actual plant events and incidents, to create a realistic and effective learning environment for plant personnel.
