Sèvres, Paris, November 14, 2003 Schneider Electric and Arc Informatique have joined forces in a strategic partnership to develop tools that will provide an optimized solution for automation applications using Unity PRO and PcVue SCADA. The objective of the Schneider Unity programme is to introduce a novel approach to developing projects using a new range of automation applications, while increasing productivity and reducing costs. The solution shown recently at the MIPS exhibition (Manufacturing, Infrastructure & Process Solutions) highlighted the ability to use the Unity PRO PLC tag list to create a PcVue SCADA database, while maintaining consistency between the two databases and shortening development time for SCADA applications. A tag in a SCADA database embeds many more properties than does a PLC tag accessed through OFS. Each process component (motor, valve, etc.) is described using a template of appropriate variables and properties. When importing tags from Unity PRO, the data link tool matches the data groups to the templates and automatically adds the generic properties (Min, Max, Units, etc.) defined in the templates. The PcVue data link tool can support legacy programs and manage both old style flat PL7 PRO databases and Concept variables. It does so with an automatic mechanism that reorganizes the database and creates the templates. The combination of the P-Unit software workshop with the PcVue data link tool optimizes the generation and description of the SCADA database so as to:- GUARANTEE consistency of the SCADA database by avoiding duplication of variables- REDUCE SCADA development time for your applications- REDUCE maintenance costs of your applications- HELP develop applications within stringent regulations.About Schneider ElectricSchneider Electric, a global Power & Control specialist with leading global brands such as Merlin Gerin, Square D and Telemecanique, offers a comprehensive range of products and services for the following markets: residential, buildings, industry, energy and infrastructure.
