Largest Private-Sector Steel Company in India Will Use Experion Automation Control SystemPHOENIX, Feb. 18, 2004 - Honeywell (NYSE: HON) Process Solutions announced today that it has received a $4.1 million contract to automate all major areas of the Tata Steel G-Blast Furnace in Jamshedpur, India. The integrated automation solution will allow Tata Steel to operate the blast furnace at peak efficiency by linking controls and sharing information across all major furnace operations. "Honeywell offers a complete solution," said V.K Sinha, Chief of Special Projects for Tata Steel. "We have had excellent success with Honeywell systems, implementation and on-site services. They gracefully handle immensely complex projects and work within short shutdown periods. We are pleased to work with Honeywell again as we continue to upgrade our furnace operations with Experion." The automation project, part of a facility upgrade, is the second major contract Tata Steel has awarded to Honeywell in the last 12 months. In January 2003, the Experion (tm) Process Knowledge System (PKS) was installed for control of four boilers at the Jamshedpur facility. Honeywell will automate blast furnace operations using Honeywell's Experion PKS, Uniformance® Process Historian Data (PHD) solution and Asset Manager PKS®. The integrated solution will link the facility's stoves, cast house, utilities, stock house and weighing systems, raw material handling, coal injection, slag granulation, furnace cooling and gas cleaning plant. The entire operation will be viewed on large video screens in a main control room. All operations will be automated and controlled using an Experion solution consisting of three pairs of redundant Servers with more than 30 C200 controllers, 12,000 input/output connections, 12 operator stations and fiber optic communications. Advanced Experion features, including Distributed System Architecture, will provide seamless sharing of process and configuration data. "We have enjoyed working alongside the people at Tata Steel and we are thrilled to embark on this new project," said Desmond Teo, Asia Pacific Vice President and General Manager for Honeywell Process Solutions. "This is an excellent environment in which Experion brings so many advantages to a very complex operation.
