New Features Improve Business Performance and Provide Continuous Evolution from Previous SystemsLONDON, Feb. 2, 2004 - Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced today that the new release of its Experion Process Knowledge System(tm) (PKS) uses leading-edge open technologies to provide an unprecedented ability to gather, view, analyze and act on information to increase productivity and quality, reduce cost, improve uptime, enhance operator effectiveness and make better and faster business decisions. With Experion Release 200, new features and embedded process knowledge elevate production output by up to six percent, while reducing production costs by up to three percent."In today's increasingly competitive environment, we find ourselves gravitating to technology solutions and partnerships that can help us achieve our performance objectives," said Victor Phillip Dahdaleh, Chairman of Aluminium Oxid Stade GmbH (AOS), Germany, the leading alumina refinery in Europe. "The installation of Honeywell's Experion system allows us to share and act upon process knowledge across the enterprise, which has improved our production efficiency and performance at our refinery in Germany. With Experion we have reduced start-up time and production downtime, as well as improved product quality. In the end, we partnered with Honeywell because they have the proven experience, technology and services to take our performance to the highest level, now and into the future." Experion is Honeywell's single system for process, business and asset management. Its unified architecture, with embedded application technologies, collects and integrates process and business data across the entire facility. Making process knowledge available where and when it is needed improves process performance, asset and people effectiveness and business agility. To help customers elevate performance results, Experion R200 adds significant new features including: seamless integration with Honeywell TDC and TPS; full access to HART device digital data; a faster, more secure network solution; and an innovative model-based control technology that increases process stability and reduces valve maintenance. Experion R200 provides continuous evolution and investment protection by allowing the functionality of previous Honeywell systems, as well as third-party systems, to be fully maximized when migrating to the Experion system. Instead of having to interface between two separate systems, integration results in a single system with one database. All data, events and operator messages are incorporated into Experion from previous Honeywell systems, in a matter of minutes. The new Experion release provides a best-in-class redundant solution for the HART communication protocol, allowing plant operators and maintenance personnel full access to field device information directly through the Experion system. The HART solution improves system performance, increases process availability, safety, and throughput, while reducing life cycle costs for upgrading and maintaining smart field devices. Expanding the number of systems and devices linked to Experion requires a more robust yet open network solution. Experion R200 provides increased fault tolerance capability, security and faster response by using a Fault Tolerant Ethernet (FTE) control network. The FTE design is a patented advanced networking solution that delivers greater system availability. Because the FTE design uses well-known networking protocols and standards together with standard off-the-shelf equipment that is commercially available, commissioning and maintenance costs are reduced.Experion R200 embeds Profit® Loop PKS®, an algorithm created and patented by Honeywell that reduces valve maintenance costs and increases process stability by up to 30 percent. By replacing the PID algorithm with a true process model based controller, Profit Loop PKS eliminates PID-related tuning software and service requirements to provide tighter and more robust control over a much broader range of process dynamics. Its ability to predict the effect of past, present and future control moves provides the controller with the process knowledge needed to know exactly how much to move the process to meet the desired control objectives. Experion R200 also provides tight integration with Honeywell's Safety Manager PKS safety management system to deliver a unified safety system solution, allowing improvements in both the safety and availability of a manufacturing process. Drawing on Honeywell's involvement with the Abnormal Situation Management Consortium, Experion R200 offers applications that are uniquely designed to proactively identify abnormal situations and eliminate problems before they can turn into incidents."This release is part of Honeywell's continued commitment to elevate the business performance of customers in the process industries," said Paul Butler, Vice President of Technology for Honeywell Process Solutions. "The improvements in R200 are the result of active research into customer needs now and in the future. By providing access to process knowledge and continuous system evolution, we are delivering automation solutions that improve safety, productivity, and profitability. Customer response to Experion has been outstanding since its introduction in 2002."Market acceptance of Experion has been tremendous. Recently, Control Engineering magazine awarded Honeywell Process Solutions an Editors' Choice Award based on the systems' market impact, service to industry and technology advancement. Experion is used in a variety of industries including the energy; metal, minerals, and mining; chemicals; pulp, paper and printing; and life sciences industries.Honeywell International is a $23 billion diversified technology and manufacturing leader, serving customers worldwide with aerospace products and services; control technologies for buildings, homes and industry; automotive products; turbochargers; specialty chemicals; fibres; and electronic and advanced materials.
