Improves Safety PLC PerformanceSPRING HOUSE, Pa. (March 2, 2004)—Siemens Energy & Automation has released the eXcelerated Critical Control Module (CCMX), an enhanced version of the QUADLOG Safety PLC’s Critical Control Module (CCM+). The CCMx features expanded memory capacity and is capable of scanning program logic 2 to 4 times faster than the CCM+ Controller. In addition to providing more time for communication with other devices in the system, such as the operator interface, the faster scan rates also minimize the time it takes to detect an unsafe process condition, and it’s reaction to bring the process to a safe state. Moreover, the CCMx offers the CCM+’s logic solving, communication, and advanced control functions, while continuing to provide 1 ms Sequence of Events (SOE) resolution on discrete I/O changes. The CCMx is certified for classes AK1-AK6 by Germany’s TÜV organization, which rates equipment for requirement class levels (AKs) to specify the amount of safety risk reduction required by a particular application. It is also certified by Factory Mutual (FM) and the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) for Class 1, Division 2 hazardous areas. The CCMx is suitable for use in SIL 2 and SIL 3 applications. The QUADLOG Safety PLC is a programmable electronic system (PES) for potentially dangerous applications, such as burner management, emergency shutdown, and fire and gas detection. Unlike conventional PLCs, which require additional hardware and engineering for adequate protection, QUADLOG’s built-in features provide maximum safety and reliability. Moreover, it exceeds the safety of triple modular redundant (TMR) systems, but for less cost and with greater system reliability.Siemens AG (NYSE: SI), headquartered in Munich, is a leading global electronics and engineering company.
