State of the Art Technology to Create Better Efficiencies and Increase Energy AvailabilityPHOENIX, Nov. 18, 2004 - Honeywell (NYSE: HON) Process Solutions has been awarded a $10 million (U.S.) contract by the Shanxilujin Wangqu Power Generation Company, Ltd. to automate a new power plant currently under construction in the Shanxi province, which has the largest coal reserves in central China. In compliance with this two-phased contract, Honeywell will provide a state-of-the-art system that controls, monitors and protects the power-generation process, helping to ensure efficient and reliable production and plant personnel safety. The first phase of construction, which began at the end of 2003, is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2006. The second phase, which features construction of two additional 1,000-megawatt generators, will be completed in 2007. "China's accelerating economic growth during the past decades creates a huge need for electric power. All power generation projects in China are on aggressive construction schedules, and the Wangqu Power Plant is no different," said Mr. Liang Guan Zhong, vice president of Shandong Luneng Development Corporation, "Honeywell demonstrated to the Wangqu technical evaluation committee its state-of-the-art technology and capability to deliver what we require, on time and on budget." As the main automation contractor for the first phase of this two-phase project, Honeywell will help develop two supercritical, coal-fired turbine generators capable of producing 600 megawatts each. Honeywell will provide an instrumentation and control island for power plant control, alarm monitoring and system protection. This island also features a supervisory information system, management information system, closed-circuit television system (CCTV) and simulator system, as well as miscellaneous instrumentation and control devices, which help the plant to run safely, efficiently and reliably. The electricity generated through Wangqu's two supercritical generators will be dispatched through a 500kV double loop to the North China Power Grid via Handan East Switching Station. The establishment of the plant is in line with the national policy of Chinese government, which is to optimize resource deployment, transmitting electricity produced in western provinces to eastern ones, instead of transporting coal from west to east. Funding is provided by the Japan Bank International Cooperation (JBIC). "Honeywell is well-positioned to help China meet its growing power-generation needs," said Jack Bolick, president, Honeywell Process Solutions. "The Wangqu project win again reflects our commitment of serving our Chinese customers with advanced technologies and reliable products as well as a high degree of locally sourced products and local contractors." The Wangqu Power Plant is one of Honeywell's larger automation contract wins in China. Other recent wins include a $4M contract with CNOOC Limited, China's largest offshore oil producer, and a $3.2M contract with China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation (SINOPEC) for automation of a refined oil products pipeline in southwest China.
