RuggedCom's RS900 Managed Ethernet Switch and Hi-Voltage Power Supply Are Approved for Class I, Division 2
On June 25, 2004 the RuggedSwitchTM RS900 managed Ethernet switch equipped with the Hi-Voltage power supply option only, was approved as a component for Hazardous Locations environments Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C and D. The newly approved RS900 is rated to operate with a T6 temperature code rating at 40°C ambient, or a T4A rating at 85°C ambient.In meeting the requirements for Hazardous Locations the RS900 equipped with the high voltage supply option has met the following standards:
CSA STD C22.2 No. 142-M1987 Process Control Equipment
CSA STD C22.2 No. 213-M1987 Non-Incendive Electrical Equipment for Use in Class I, Division 2 Hazardous Locations
UL STD No. 916 Energy Management Equipment
UL STD No. 1604, Third Ed. 1994 Electrical Equipment for Use in Class I and II, Division 2; Class III Hazardous (Classified) LocationsClass I, Division 2 environments are defined as locations:
Where volatile flammable liquids or gases or vapors exist, but are normally confined in closed containers.
Where ignitable concentrations of gases vapors or liquids are preventable by positive mechanical ventilation
Adjacent to Class I, Division 1, location and ignitable concentrations might be occasionally communicated.The RS900 is an industrially hardened, fully managed, Ethernet switch designed specifically to operate in harsh and climatically demanding environments. This approval allows the RS900 equipped (with HI power supply option) to be a component installed in a suitable enclosure appropriately rated for the environment. The RS900 has been approved to operate in all gas group categories as follows:
Group A - Acetylene
Group B - Hydrogen, butadiene ethylene oxide, propylene oxide
Group C - Ethylene, coke oven gas, diethyl ether, dimethyl ether
Group D - Propane, acetone, alcohols, ammonia, benzene, butane, gasoline, methane, pentanes, tolueneThe temperature code ratings inform users of maximum surface temperatures for a given ambient temperature, and are defined by the following T Code(Division) and corresponding Max.
