LAKE FOREST, Calif., Nov. 10, 2004 -- Wonderware, a business unit of Invensys Systems, Inc., today announced that it has teamed with Woodhead Industries Inc. to offer the latest ArchestrA plant/factory floor connectivity technology with Woodhead's popular industrial hardware and software communication products. The Woodhead Software & Electronics (WSE) division of Woodhead Industries has developed an integrated DataAccess Server (DAServer) in combination with WSE's applicom products by using the ArchestrA DAServer Toolkit. The results are hardware and software offerings that tightly integrate the full range of protocols that are supported by WSE's applicom interfaces, for use with Wonderware's Industrial Application Server and Wonderware's new industrial computer product line. This combination results in a new generation of plant/floor connectivity for a wider range of networks and devices, while offering customers higher connectivity performance and simpler overall systems management. Wonderware will feature the WSE DAServer as part of its standard Wonderware software distribution. These new, native ArchestrA connectivity offerings include support for Schneider, GE, Omron, and Mitsubishi PLCs, along with Profibus and other protocols. Wonderware already offers native ArchestrA connectivity support for Rockwell and Siemens PLCs. "The Wonderware/WSE collaborative agreement helps extend the connectivity possibilities for FactorySuite A² products," said Tim Black, Wonderware's product manager for DAServers. "WSE's product offerings help extend the industry-leading connectivity already offered by Wonderware's DAServers and I/O Servers. Wonderware distributors will be able to sell and distribute WSE communication cards and software to cover customer communications needs."The WSE DAServer is the first example of a third-party developer using Wonderware's DAServer Toolkit, and is the first server offered by a third party to fully support the latest-generation installations built on Invensys' ArchestrA technology. DAServers are designed to provide simultaneous connectivity between plant-floor devices and client applications based on DDE, SuiteLink and/or OPC protocols -- all with a single development effort. The WSE DAServer runs Microsoft Windows 2000 or XP Professional operating systems. The DAServer, based on WSE's entire applicom range of software and intelligent network interface cards, enables Wonderware customers to connect with and obtain data from more than 30 different types of controllers or their related industrial communications protocols. This enhanced communication with prominent vendors in industrial automation will enable a significantly greater market reach for Invensys products and greater flexibility for Wonderware customers, Black said.Customers receiving Wonderware's FactorySuite A² device integration products CD-ROM will now be able to install and run the integrated WSE DAServer directly, assessing features and capabilities of the products in an evaluation mode. Where additional communications hardware is required, Wonderware distributors will be enabled to directly bundle WSE's applicom intelligent network cards to complete the solution and enable full-featured connectivity performance.About WoodheadWoodhead Industries Inc. develops, manufactures and markets network and electrical infrastructure products engineered for performance in demanding, harsh or hazardous environments.
