Engineers Now Can Interactively Design, Implement Digital Filters with NI LabVIEW
NEWS RELEASE Feb. 22, 2005 National Instruments today announced the NI LabVIEW Digital Filter Design Toolkit Version 7.5, which includes tools for modeling and creating software-based digital filters as well as LabVIEW FPGA and C code generation capabilities for chip-level implementation. With the toolkit, design and test engineers now can use the NI LabVIEW graphical development environment to ensure a seamless digital filter design process from conception to completion while reducing development costs. In addition, professors can use the toolkit to demonstrate key filter design concepts to undergraduate and graduate engineering students.To efficiently design a digital filter, engineers rely on a variety of software tools for iterative design, optimization and implementation. The new LabVIEW Digital Filter Design Toolkit, based on LabVIEW Express technology, provides a single software tool that engineers can use throughout the process to quickly and interactively design custom floating- or fixed-point filters for tasks such as noise reduction, signal extraction, antialiasing and resampling. The toolkit includes four new Express VIs for interactive configuration and offers a wide range of standard digital filter design algorithms for fine-tuning specifications.In addition, engineers without significant signal processing experience can access nearly 80 example VIs to help them get started quickly and easily. The toolkit also features state-of-the-art algorithms such as the Remez exchange method and the least Pth norm method for advanced applications, telecommunications and electronics design. Regardless of their signal processing experience, engineers can use the LabVIEW Digital Filter Design Toolkit to easily develop custom digital filters, said Shawn McCaslin, senior NI R&D group manager for signal processing and math. The toolkits combination of comprehensive filter design tools and easy-to-use Express technology make it a quick and accurate tool to guide engineers and students from theory to implementation without requiring multiple software platforms. The LabVIEW Digital Filter Design Toolkit also includes the necessary tools for implementing newly designed filters on both floating- and fixed-point targets.
