NEWS RELEASE – April 5, 2005 – Engineers and scientists now can communicate with their instruments faster than ever before with the National Instruments GPIB-USB-HS converter, which transforms any computer with a USB port into a full-function, plug-and-play IEEE-488.2 controller. The NI GPIB-USB-HS controller incorporates an NI TNT GPIB ASIC and a USB 2.0 high-speed chip to achieve GPIB transfer rates comparable to those of the high-performance PCI-GPIB plug-in board. With GPIB transfer rates of up to 1.8 MB/s in standard IEEE 488.1 and 8 MB/s with high-speed IEEE 488.1 (HS488), engineers can quickly take their measurements. The small size and light weight of the controller make it ideal for portable applications using a laptop computer. The NI GPIB-USB-HS comes with NI-488.2 driver software for Windows 2000/XP or Linux. Because the controller uses the same widely used NI-488.2 API, engineers can run existing GPIB applications unchanged with it. The new controller works with NI LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI and Measurement Studio through the NI-488.2 driver software.About National InstrumentsNational Instruments is a technology pioneer and leader in virtual instrumentation – a revolutionary concept that has changed the way engineers and scientists in industry, government and academia approach measurement and automation. Leveraging the PC and its related technologies, virtual instrumentation increases productivity and lowers costs through easy-to-integrate software, such as the NI LabVIEW graphical development environment, and modular hardware, such as PXI modules for data acquisition, instrument control and machine vision. Headquartered in Austin, Texas, NI has more than 3,400 employees and direct operations in approximately 40 countries. In 2004, the company sold products to more than 25,000 companies in 90 countries. For past six years, FORTUNE magazine named NI one of the 100 best companies to work for in America. For more information, Contact National Instruments or visit their web site at www.ni.com/gpib.
