Downers Grove, Illinois (September 19, 2005) Robert Redford is one of America's most famous actors, starring in dozens of movies including Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, Brubaker, Out of Africa, and the Natural. He has also produced and directed more than a dozen other films. And the new Robert Redford Building in Santa Monica, CA, is a showcase for energy technology applications. It has now received the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum rating, the highest available, from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).Contemporary Controls' Ethernet switch is integral to the building's capacity to communicate energy and environmental control information. The building employs Contemporary Controls' miniature switching hub, the EISM5-100T. ASW Engineering Management Consultants of Tustin, CA, were engaged to manage the project, and ASW's Senior Project Engineer Dennis Rowan said, "The tiny switch, measuring only 3" x 3", accommodated our space limitations and enhanced our compact panel design. It was easy to install with DIN-rail mounts. No Velcro, duct tape, or custom shelves." In addition to smart energy management technology, this "green" building uses recyclable materials, natural light, and saves water through capturing rain and recycling sink and shower water to irrigate landscaping and flush toilets.
