Bologna, 10th October 2005 - Datalogic has renewed its winning 8000 series of fixed position laser scanners with the introduction of the new DS8100A and DX8200A with improved performance and superior technology. These two new fixed position scanners reinforce Datalogic's leading position in the market for sorting applications, as they are ideal for use on conveyors transporting parcels and goods in distribution centres or express couriers, and in baggage handling systems in airports. The DS8100A has the same mechanical design of the DS8100 scanner, with the same dimensions and footprint. It comes with a display and three-button keypad, so that it is possible to see if the scanner reads bar codes properly and see the data content of the bar code. Additionally, Datalogic has improved the reading performance of the DS8100A to reach a standard scan speed of 1000 scans/sec, compared to 800 scans/sec in the previous model. This results in a higher probability to read bar codes and greater tolerance in the tilt angle for code reconstruction. The DX8200A has the same optic structure (rotor, mirrors, internal distances) as the DX8200 model, but it is now fitted into a more compact case, which is half the size but with the same high performance as the previous model, making it easier to install the scanner. The optic platforms of both scanners use an enhanced version of Astra technology with improved performance - a Datalogic patented electronic focussing system based on a multi-laser structure for an unbeatable real-time depth of field. In addition, the optic platform has enhanced laser beam efficiency to improve reading performance on bar codes with a plastic covering. The DS8100A is available with four optic resolutions: low, medium, high and very high, while the DX8200A has three optic resolutions: low/medium, high and very high. These optic focalisations have been defined to cover all the market needs for sorting applicationsBoth scanners are equipped with a completely new decoder board based on an Intel Xscale® microprocessor, that runs at 400 MHz and offers reduced power consumption and benchmark performance. In fact, the new DS8100A and DX8200A are equipped with a new DIGITECH digitiser board for the decoding process, that offers easier scanner customisation and better reading performance for the entire depth of field. Also installed in the scanners is PackTrack, a Datalogic patented technology that identifies a gap reduction between parcels or goods on the conveyor, without using an external measuring device.Datalogic has improved the connectivity of both scanners with the introduction of built-in Ethernet with a fully implemented TCP-IP protocol, while built-in Profibus and DeviceNet connectivity is available in the DX8200A. As a result of the built-in connectivity it is possible to control the scanners by remote, and also carry out preventive maintenance. The software platform of the two new scanners is based on GENIUS configuration programme, so that they are fully compatible with the 6000 family of industrial laser scanners as well as the SC6000 industrial controller from Datalogic. Therefore, it is now possible to combine the 6000 and 8000 families of scanners on the same sorting system, making solutions even more versatile. The automatic scanner replacement procedure (ASR) installed in both scanners provides the possibility to easily replace slave scanners in a reading station without using a PC. Similarly, the Datalogic automatic replacement procedure (DARP) enables the replacement of each single component in the system without using a PC. Visit Datalogic at www.datalogic.com.
