BILLERICA, MASSACHUSETTS, OCTOBER 2005 — GE Sensing, a leading provider of precision sensing products, systems and services, announces the introduction of it’s intrinsically safe ISX878 loop-powered, clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeter. The ISX878 brings all the advantages of clamp-on flow metering to classified hazardous areas: it is accurate, easy to install, causes no pressure drop, provides drift free performance and is virtually maintenance free. The ISX878 features a patent-pending low-powered design that requires as little as 60mW of power. The ISX878 is able to achieve it’s low power consumption by utilizing new ultrasonic transducer technology that requires much less excitation energy than conventional transducers, while still providing exceptional, high-performing ultrasonic signals. The ISX878 combines the straightforward design of loop power with the performance and full features of an advanced ultrasonic flowmeter. It’s low-profile, Type 4X package features a 128x64 pixel LCD display for easy local viewing of flow rate information and a 6-button external keypad for accessing the instrument program as well as for verifying meter diagnostics. ISX878 transducers are available to cover pipe size ranges from one-half inch up to 16 inches in diameter. “Many customers prefer loop-powered flowmeters because of their low cost and ease of installation. With the intrinsically safe ISX878, we can now provide these important attributes for use in hazardous environments with all of the benefits of a full functioned ultrasonic flowmeter”, comments Christopher Frail, GE Sensing Flowmeter Product Line Manager. “In addition, an intrinsically safe design provides a package that avoids a bulky, large, heavy-duty explosion-proof enclosure for the meter electronics. The ISX878 is easy to access and service compared to explosion-proof meters.”About GE GE (NYSE: GE) is Imagination at Work—a diversified technology, media and financial services company focused on solving some of the world’s toughest problems.
