Matrikon Delivers Reliable Steam Production to BHP Billiton's QNI Yabulu Refinery

(TSX: MTK) today announced that its Australian subsidiary has signed an AUD $3.6 million subcontract with Alstom Power for the upgrade of the coal fired boiler at BHP Billiton's Queensland Nickel Yabulu Refinery near Townsville (Queensland, Australia).Following the successful implementation of Matrikon's solution on the No.1 and 2 oil fired boilers at the nickel and cobalt processing operation, an agreement has been made to apply the control system solution to the site’s main duty boiler, Boiler No. 4. Matrikon will integrate products from its ProcessSuite™ and Connectivity Suite to provide alarm and event analysis as well as the communication infrastructure which connects various plant hardware and software systems. The No. 4 boiler is the heart of the utilities that power the Yabulu site, supplying steam for the process plant and generating electricity to run the 24-hour a day operation. The upgrade of the boiler is intended to extend its life for a further 15 years and modernize the control system for reliable operations.
