Cingular Wireless, Sprint Nextel, and Verizon Wireless kick off second annual machine-to-machine technology event SAN ANTONIO - June 17, 2006 - Executives from Cingular Wireless, Verizon Wireless, and Sprint Nextel - the three largest wireless carriers in the United States - will kick off the second annual M2M United conference, held this year in San Antonio, with a morning keynote address on June 27. Later that day, executives from IBM, Siemens, and Wavecom - leaders in M2M solutions - will also address the conference, laying the groundwork for even greater discussion on M2M technology trends. Earl Davison, director of telemetry sales for Cingular Wireless; Kenneth Wells, associate director of enterprise data sales at Verizon Wireless; and Patrick Sweeney, product manager for embedded solutions at Sprint Nextel, are responsible for overseeing the M2M operations at the country's largest wireless carriers. As the most important companies in the M2M value chain, cellular network operators hold a key piece of the puzzle and greatly influence M2M adoption and functionality. These leaders will weigh in on how they perceive the M2M opportunity and what companies can expect from them going forward. "These three carriers have a clear vision for what they hope to accomplish in the M2M space, and our attendees will gain some valuable insight about what makes these carriers tick," said Peggy Smedley, editorial director of M2M magazine and organizer of M2M United. "M2M vendors and users alike will benefit from learning about how the carriers influence the direction of M2M." Ray Jones, asset monitoring solutions executive for IBM Sensors & Actuators; Peter Fowler, vice president of the wireless modules division at Siemens; and Anders Franzen, chief operating officer of Wavecom, represent several important technology segments of the M2M value chain. In the conference's afternoon keynote, these three heavy hitters will discuss the future of the market and how they are helping drive mainstream corporate adoption of machine-to-machine technology. The M2M United conference brings together developers and users of machine-to-machine technology, which enables devices to connect with each other, share data and provide for analysis of that data. One easily recognizable example of M2M technology in action is General Motors' OnStar system, which monitors several parts of a vehicle's operation and sends e-mail messages to the vehicle's owner when maintenance or other attention in necessary. The technology is also used by utility companies for remote automated meter reading, by supply-chain managers for tracking materials and products, and by retail and hospitality businesses looking to improve and streamline customer service. This year's M2M United conference features technology sessions and demonstrations of industry solutions. With topics selected by industry-leading event sponsors and chaired by industry analysts, the sessions are sure to identify some of the most crucial topics for promoting M2M adoption and its advantages to customers in industries like professional services, manufacturing and retail.
