AUSTIN, TEXAS (June 21, 2006) - Emerson Process Management has been awarded a contract by Taiwan Power Company (also known as Taipower) to supply Fisher valves for general turbine-generator control systems, commonly referred to as balance-of-plant applications, in the Taiwan Lunmen Nuclear Power Number 4 plant. Expected to be fully operational in 2010, the project involves a 2,700 MW plant consisting of two 1,350 MW units at Yenliao, on the north eastern tip of Taiwan, near the capital Taipei. The advanced boiling water reactor technology marks a departure from the end user's existing three nuclear plants built in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Emerson will supply 600 control valves including 100 units that are large size ANSI 600# rated SST valves with weld-on nipples at inlet/outlet, and 24 units built with specialty materials such as 6% Molybdenum stainless steel for seawater applications. In addition, 110 units of remote mount Fisher FIELDVUE DVC6000 digital valve controllers will be supplied for valves located in areas with high ambient radiation. Emerson's control valve expertise and technical advice, combined with superior product capabilities that offer predictive diagnostics, and remote mounted DVCs, are some of the key differentiating reasons for the selection of Emerson. Remote mount DVCs enable the end user to monitor processes, run diagnostic checks, calibrate and maintain records for any valve in the nuclear plant from a central location. Excellent previous user experience with Fisher valves by Taipower was also important to the choice of Emerson.
