Berlin, Germany - July 7, 2007 - DVI (the German Packaging Institute) announced today the endorsement of the OMAC Guidelines by the DVI Automation Circle to it's German members, OEM machine builders, and packaging equipment users, significantly increasing the recognition of the OMAC Guidelines with European end users and OEMs. The ongoing dialogue and interaction between OMAC and DVI regarding the application of OMAC standards has brought the two organizations even closer together through the realization and acceptance that true efficiencies can be realized in the design, operation, and interoperability of machines. The organizations have also found that machine lines may significantly improve by streamlining definitions, vocabulary, machine states, interfaces and operational standards. The OMAC Guidelines help to enhance industrial automation in the packaging industry, including making, converting and packaging. The results will enable end users to reduce overall costs and enhance responsiveness to changing business requirements. DVI's Automation Circle recommends members to support and use OMAC Guidelines with packaging equipment, increasing the leverage and awareness for those Guidelines. This action, by an organization representing 130 end users, OEMs, and technology vendors, such as Krones, Beiersdorff, KHS, and GlaxoSmithKline, is indicative of the industry's desire to adopt and implement the OMAC Guidelines worldwide. "Our customers want the interoperability and seamless integration of the factory floor that the OMAC Guidelines promote," said Thomas Reiner, Director of the Board of DVI. "The Guidelines are the answer to meeting the industry's needs by increasing compatibility and interoperability. For these reasons, we are eager to team with OMAC to help make the OMAC Guidelines the most widely used packaging standard available." Rick van Dyke, Chair of the Executive Committee, OMAC Packaging Workgroup, agrees. "OMAC is delighted that DVI is increasing its support of our organization, and most notably, our Packaging Guidelines. OMAC looks forward to leveraging the experience and expertise of DVI and its members in automation and machine integration to continue to expand the capabilities and recognition of OMAC technologies. OMAC strives to foster further cooperation with the German Packaging Institute to build its automation strategy to better support interoperability of multi-vendor systems and protect the customer's investment."
