July 31, 2007 - (Hannover, Germany) - HANNOVER MESSE, the world's leading industrial technology trade fair, will expand its emphasis on automation when it runs from 21 to 25 April 2008 at the Hannover Fairgrounds in Hannover, Germany. Automation plays a pivotal role in economic growth and is driving demand for end-to-end systems. Next year's HANNOVER MESSE will focus on such comprehensive solutions while also spotlighting key innovations and trends and fostering knowledge transfer. Keynote themes in 2008 will include autonomous systems, industrial PCs, IT security, mobile robots, and PC infrastructure. HANNOVER MESSE's Industrial Automation component is already the world's largest automation showcase of its kind and consists of three leading trade fairs - INTERKAMA+ (process automation), Factory Automation, and Industrial Building Automation - that take place concurrently. In 2007, Industrial Automation hosted more than 1,400 exhibiting companies and attracted 141,500 attendees from all over the world. Attendance at Industrial Automation increased by 20,000 in comparison to 2005, the last year with a similar exhibit program. HANNOVER MESSE's exhibitor committee - which includes such industry leaders as Endress + Hauser, Festo, Harting, ifm electronic, Pepperl + Fuchs, Phoenix Contact, Rittal, and Siemens - met recently to plan the future growth of the show's automation component. Robots will continue to figure prominently, due in part to the popularity of Application Park, which focuses on mechanical engineering and robotics solutions, and Robotics Academy, which offers hands-on learning opportunities. INTERKAMA+ will expand its exhibit portfolio to include asset management and control engineering. A special conference will also examine asset management. One of Industrial Automation's defining characteristics is its international scope - visitors from outside of Germany accounted for 28 percent of the audience. Ninety-seven percent of attendees were industry professionals. Of this number, 13 percent were chief executive officers, board members or heads of public authorities; 30 percent were senior managers; and roughly 80 percent were involved in decision-making processes. The manufacturing sector accounted for the greatest number of visitors, the majority of whom work in the fields of mechanical and plant engineering or electrical and electronics engineering. An increasing number of visitors came from the consumer goods sector - e.g., food, beverages, and semi-luxury items - of the process industry. Hygienic design and clean room technology were popular themes in 2007. The most frequently quoted reasons for visiting Industrial Automation were: to gain an overview of market trends; to establish new business contacts and develop existing contacts; to acquire information; and to identify potential suppliers.
