Siemens supplies controls to cement plant in Libya

June 22, 2007 - The Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S) has received an order from the German CEMAG Anlagenbau GmbH, Hameln, to supply equipment for the new kiln line in the Zliten cement plant in Libya. The final customer is the Ahlia Cement Company. The order is worth around eight million euros and the new kiln line is scheduled to start operating in May 2008. The Ahlia Cement Company (AhCC) of Libya operates four cement plants with an annual capacity of approximately 3.5 million metric tons. At the Zliten location, to the east of Tripoli, CEMAG Anlagenbau GmbH is currently building a second cement kiln line for AhCC. It is designed to produce one million metric tons a year. In the Zliten cement plant, erected at the beginning of the 1980s, all the electrical equipment comes from Siemens. For the new cement kiln line as well, Siemens is supplying the electrical equipment and is also responsible for the associated plant engineering. The scope of supply includes the process control system, field instrumentation and special instrumentation, SF6 gas-insulated medium-voltage switchgears, the main low-voltage distribution boards, power and distribution transformers, the motor control center (MCC), medium-voltage power factor correction equipment, as well as cabling, grounding systems and the process lighting.
