ABB to supply System 800xA to Swedish resin plant

May 14, 2008 - ABB received an order from PA Resins AB to provide a new automation system based on System 800xA to improve the operations of its phenolic and amino resins plant in Perstorp, Sweden. ABB’s solution will help PA Resins increase overall productivity, quality and production flexibility, as well as integrate the plant’s production and business systems. The order value is approximately $1.3 million. “The ability to automate the entire manufacturing process, from customer order to end product was important for us,” said Michael Palm, CEO of PA Resins AB. “That ABB can integrate its automation solution with SAP was one of the decisive factors for our choice of supplier. Another factor, that is as important as the technology, is the local service and support that ABB can provide for the project.” ABB’s scope of supply includes its flagship IndustrialIT Extended Automation System 800xA with functionality for advanced batch handling, long-term storage of process data, and IndustrialIT cpmPlus Enterprise Connectivity (ECS Enterprise Connectivity Solutions) for integration with PA Resins’ corporate SAP system. This streamlined, single point interface for vertical integration between plant and enterprise business systems enables easy information access and exchange while it eliminates the need for multiple customized and complex system interfaces. ABB will also provide project delivery, project management, design, training and commissioning and related services. ABB’s integrated solution will help PA Resins react more quickly to changing customer requirements by making the production process more flexible with less changeover time needed between different product runs. It will also help improve end product quality while maintaining a secure production environment. By integrating production and business systems, PA Resins will also reduce its order-to-cash cycle. PA Resins has 60 employees, with a yearly production volume of 65,000 tons.
