March 5, 2008 - Paqworks now carries Moxa'sIEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613 compliant Ethernet Switches suitable for electric utility substation environments. Designed to be 19” rack mountable, these switches feature the highest level of reliability, offering the new Turbo Ring technology with faster network fault recovery as well as IEEE802.1W/D. Additional features include fan-less operation at a wide temperature range of -40 to 85oC, dual redundant and integrated power supplies for high availability, and high EMI noise immunity.Moxa has designed the switches to withstand the extreme conditions and electromagnetic interference commonly found in power substation automation. Maximum flexibility is achieved by modular design with high fiber optic and gigabit port density, along with optional rear or front wiring, which makes the new PT series suitable for multiple applications. Reliable network operation is essential to protect against electrical surge and EMI, extreme temperature variations and other environmental threats. IEC 61850-3 specifically defines environmental and electromagnetic interference (EMI) immunity for communication networks and system in substations. IEEE 1613 is another industry standard that offers error free device operation for challenging substation automation applications. Moxa’s PowerTrans series substation switches, which fully comply with IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613, are proven to be reliable and resilient to data loss when exposed to various EMI conditions.These rack mounted switches are designed for completely fan-less operation in a wide temperature range of -40ºC to 85ºC. Maximum uptime is ensured by use of dual redundant power supplies of 24/48 VDC or 110/220 VDC/VAC. In addition to front wiring, these switches are equipped with rear wiring that provides users with the flexibility to access all communication and power cables from the rear of the 19” rack.Moxa modular switch series supports up to 24 fast Ethernet ports and four Gigabit Ethernet ports. Two different gigabit modules are available for copper or fiber connectors, which may be used to build a fiber optic Gigabit backbone, redundant ring, or redundant Gigabit uplinks.
