December 17, 2008 - EPCglobal awarded its software certification mark to Lyngsoe Systems for its EDECS RFID middleware software. EDECS is the abbreviation for Expandable Data Exchange and Communication System. The certified EDECS is the third generation of Lyngsoe’s RFID high-performance middleware capable of managing multiple passive, active and semi-active RFID readers and antennas, as well as managing data collection through hand-held terminals reading barcodes etc. Event management and various on-site logistics execution is also handled by EDECS, such as load control on trucks. The system is well-adopted worldwide and in operation 24/7 and in production in more than a thousand installations in 55 countries. EDECS is without doubt the most globally adopted middleware, which has proven its value for more than 10 years – which no other commercially available RFID middleware in the market has.EPCglobal Inc is the non-profit standards organization dedicated to driving global adoption of the Electronic Product Code (EPC) for supply chain excellence. The certification mark ensures that software products have been tested and will work in predictable ways within the overall architecture of the EPC Network. The mark is awarded by the EPCglobal Software Certification Program, a standards-based compliance testing program that provides a neutral and authoritative source for testing EPC/RFID software and providing information regarding certified products and the vendors, who manufacture them.“To maintain our leading role within RFID implementations worldwide – that is within postal services, airports, and private supply chains - the EPC Global certification of our EDECS Middleware is a significant milestone,” said Finn Mathiassen, managing director of Lyngsoe Systems. “Adoption of open standards is important for our customers, and it further enforces the position of the leading commercially available Lyngsoe EDECS middleware system. EDECS and Lyngsoe’s Central Network management system and Database systems are today in production within postal services, airports and private supply chains every day, and creates value. Even large supply chains across many countries can be monitored and managed by the high- performance EDECS RFID middleware.” “By choosing software with an EPCglobal Software Compliance Certification Mark, the end-user can be confident that the software will perform according to defined EPCglobal standards,” said Chris Adcock, president of EPCglobal Inc. “With this information readily available, they will have more time to focus their resources on completing pilots and capturing information.” To receive the software certification mark, EDECS had to pass rigorous testing conducted by MET Laboratories, a third party, nationally-recognized testing facility located in Baltimore, Maryland in the United States. The mark is a stylized form of the EPCglobal logo and includes an 18-digit Global Service Relation Number (GSRN) that is globally unique to that specific software product.
