December 15, 2008 - Semaphore released two technical documents with information on RTU applications of the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) in SCADA systems and IP Forwarding using a Remote Terminal Unit (RTU). The white paper, "SNMP - A new Paradigm for SCADA," describes how SNMP is applied to asset management and transportation of "shadow data," information on equipment maintenance and security within the SCADA system. Since SNMP has emerged as a very efficient vehicle for transportation of this information, it is feasible for addition to existing systems. The white paper includes descriptions of smart function blocks, which significantly reduce programming efforts when used with Semaphore's T-BOX RTU and Kingfisher RTU product lines. The application brief, IP Forwarding in Semaphore's T-BOX RTU, explains how to configure the IP "gateway" capabilities in a T-BOX RTU to enable support of configuration and diagnostics in remote site equipment as well as communications of process information. The documents can be obtained on the Semaphore website. Learn More
