May 12, 2009 – ABB will supply electrical control equipment for a new power plant being constructed in New York. The new combined cycle power plant – the first combined cycle plant in the United States with System 800xA controls – will be located in Rensselaer, New York, and will have an output of 635 MW. The power station, which will be fuelled by a 2x2x1 combined cycle, is scheduled to begin operations in mid-2010. CH2M Hill, a global full-service engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) and operations firm, will serve as the EPC Contractor for the project out of its Atlanta office. ABB’s System 800xA will help control the Electrical Balance of Plant, Heat Recovery Steam Generators and the Cooling Towers. Other equipment that will be supplied as part of the order includes operator consoles, AC800M Controllers, S800 I/O (Input/Output), and S800 I/O with HART, as well as several step-up transformers. ABB will also provide the start-up and commissioning support. “The state-of-the-art 800xA control system is an ideal choice for such an application with a proven track record all over the world.
