Ricky Smith appointed Vice Chairman of Oil, Gas and Petrochemical SIG for SMRP

February 19, 2009 – Allied Reliability proudly announces the appointment of Ricky Smith, CMRP to Vice Chairman for the Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Special Interest Group (SIG) for the Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP). The SIGs are groups of Maintenance & Reliability Professionals that share interest in a specific type of manufacturing and want to meet, network, and learn from each other. Examples are members that work in Petroleum Chemical, Food Processing or Automobile Plants. The Petro Oil Gas SIG is the pilot group for such groups within SMRP and is run by a highly dedicated group of SMRP members who are also Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (CMRP) as well as volunteers from within the maintenance community at large. The Petro Oil and Gas SIG guides the way for programs, products and services that future SIGs will offer. Some opportunities SIGs will offer are quarterly luncheons or meetings, periodic virtual lunches and conference calls, a listserv through the SMRP.org website, interactive web presentations, and tracks or sessions at the annual conference.Ricky Smith has over 30 years in maintenance as a maintenance manager, maintenance supervisor, maintenance training specialist, maintenance mechanic, maintenance consultant and is a well known published author. Ricky has worked with maintenance organizations in hundreds of facilities, industrial plants, ships, etc, world wide in developing reliability, maintenance and technical training strategies.Prior to joining Allied Reliability, Inc. in 2008, Ricky worked as a professional maintenance employee for Exxon Company USA, Alumax (this plant was rated the best in the world for over 18 years), Kendall Company, and Hercules Chemical providing the foundation for his reliability and maintenance experience. Ricky recently spent over a year deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Ricky served as a Direct Support Maintenance Company Commander providing maintenance to US and Coalition Forces throughout Kuwait and Iraq. He recently served as the investigating officer for the Walter Reed Medical Center, Building 18 Investigation for the Independent Review Group as directed by the Secretary of Defense Gates and his recommendations for changes were presented to Congress. Ricky is the co-author of “Rules of Thumb for Maintenance and Reliability Engineers,” “Lean Maintenance” and “Industrial Repair, Best Maintenance Repair Practices.” Ricky also writes for different magazines during the past 20 years on technical, reliability and maintenance subjects.Ricky holds certification as Certified Plant Maintenance Manager from the Association of Facilities Engineering as well as a Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional from the Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals and he is currently serving as the Reliability Engineering Discipline Leader for PetroSkills through JMCampbell. This dedication to the industry is the very reason that Ricky was appointed to the Oil, Gas and Petrochemical SIG.
