April 14, 2009 - Softing announced that Omron has decided to use Softing’s PROFINET stack to enhance Omron’s product portfolio with industrial Ethernet capabilities. Omron has added a new line of PROFINET devices to its product portfolio. The new product family is a direct result of a close cooperation between Omron’s customers and Softing. Currently, only a small number of manufacturers are offering PROFINET controllers in their product portfolio. Today, Omron is one of them.Omron has recognized the significance of PROFINET for the automation market and the benefit this industrial protocol has to offer. The decision to heavily invest in this new technology at such an early stage is based on a solid market research project initiated by Omron. The Japanese company assembled a network of customers and technology partners to help them understand all usability and technological aspects around this new technology. The outcome of this research project is reflected in this new range of industrial Ethernet products by Omron. Today, Omron’s customers are responding very favorably to the new product line. In particular, the redundancy feature implemented for the I/O controllers and the integrated switch functionality with Media Redundancy Protocol (MRP) ring redundancy have been hailed as outstanding features. In addition, Omron’s GRT1 IO SmartSlice system is the first product in the market to offer an integrated Ethernet switch to support MRP ring redundancy. Omron’s new industrial Ethernet products are already successfully utilized in marine, tunnel, and conveyor belt applications. Omron chose Softing as its major technology partner based on the long history of successful cooperation’s between the two companies. This partnership was initiated when Omron decided to integrate Softing’s PROFIBUS DP technology into Omron’s products. The two companies are committed to further enhancing Omron’s product portfolio with industrial communications solutions from Softing.About OmronWith its headquarters in Kyoto, Japan, Omron Corporation is a global leader in the field of industrial automation, electronic components, and healthcare.
