Bosch Rexroth, an active member for several years, became one of the organization’s principal members.
February 24, 2011 — ODVA announced that Bosch Rexroth will become one of the organization’s principal members, joining Cisco Systems, Rockwell Automation, Omron and Schneider Electric. Bosch Rexroth’s increased participation builds on its long-term support of ODVA technologies and the ODVA organization in which it has been an active member for several years. Users will realize significant benefits in increased availability of ODVA-compliant products under the Rexroth brand, especially those implementing the EtherNet/IP network. With yet another leading industrial automation supplier supporting ODVA as a principal member, ODVA will have unequalled critical mass among industrial networking organizations. This will help further establish global standards that integrate the three main domains of the industrial enterprise to the market – production, enterprise and utility – through automation and interoperability. As a result, users will benefit from reduced risk through lower cost of ownership and global, multi-vendor solutions for their automation systems. “Our customers demand open, interoperable solutions for Rexroth’s core product offerings in drives and controls, and our ability to do so will be enhanced by our increased integration of ODVA technologies into our solutions, especially EtherNet/IP,” said Dr. Bernd-Josef Schäfer, senior vice president, Technical Electric Drives and Controls in the Business Unit Industrial Applications, Bosch Rexroth. “Through our increased collaboration inside ODVA with other market leaders in industrial automation, Bosch Rexroth looks forward to helping industry achieve integration from device level up to enterprise business systems that is possible with industrial Ethernet and Internet technologies.” “ODVA welcomes the increased participation of Bosch Rexroth as a principal member as well as their expertise in such areas as motion control and OEM machinery,” said Katherine Voss, executive director, ODVA. “Their engagement as a principal member will significantly increase ODVA’s ability to drive a holistic and integrated view of the industrial enterprise.” About Bosch Rexroth Bosch Rexroth AG is one of the world’s leading specialists in the field of drive and control technologies. About ODVA Founded in 1995, ODVA is a global association whose members are comprised of the world’s leading automation companies. ODVA’s mission is to advance open, interoperable information and communication technologies in industrial automation. ODVA recognizes its media independent network protocol, the Common Industrial Protocol or “CIP” – and the network adaptations of CIP – EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, CompoNet and ControlNet – as its core technology and the primary common interest of its membership. For future interoperability of production systems and the integration of the production systems with other systems, ODVA embraces the adoption of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) and standard, unmodified Internet and Ethernet technologies as a guiding principle wherever possible. This principal is exemplified by EtherNet/IP – the world’s number one industrial Ethernet network.Learn More
