February 17, 2011 - Metso achieved SIL3 certification for Jamesbury floating and trunnion soft-seated ball valves and SIL2 certification for soft-seated butterfly valves by TÜV Rheinland. In addition, the Metso rack and pinion actuator VPVL series has received SIL3 certification. The SIL assessment study and field-proven reliability analysis confirm the usability of 4000, 7000 and 9000 series ball valves and actuators as final elements in safety instrumented functions for applications up to and including SIL3, in single-valve configurations, in accordance with IEC 61508. In addition, Wafer-Sphere butterfly valves and actuators have been confirmed for use in up to and including SIL2 in single-valve configurations in accordance with IEC61508. Metso's reliable iESD valves and actuators with Neles ValvGuard intelligent valve controllers improve plant safety cost efficiently. Metso iESD valves combine the know-how of final elements and applications, safety standards and system operability together with intelligent partial-stroke test devices. All this technology has been combined in a single package, which has been configured and tested as an integrated assembly with a clear function.
