August 16, 2011 - exida certified the product reliability and the engineering change processes for the Magnetrol 705-51A Eclipse Series Level Transmitter as Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 3 capable per IEC 61508. “A Failure Mode Effect and Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA) confirmed that the Magnetrol 705-51A is designed with capable self-diagnostics,” says exida Evaluating Assessor Griff Francis. “Additionally, Magnetrol demonstrated a solid field use history and sound engineering process.” “exida has a globally recognized IEC 61508 certification program," says Bob Botwinski, Eclipse product manager. “The exida certificate gives our customers strong confidence that our products are applicable to safety critical applications". "In the past, reliability was measured by MTBF or similar types of calculations,” added Magentrol Director of Engineering, Mike Mulrooney. “Today, reliability is measured by conformance to IEC 61508. Having achieved certification to this standard, the Magnetrol Eclipse 705 is recognized at the highest level of reliability based on its performance."
