A group of manufacturer and producer organizations have formed an Industry Council to guide MESA's latest research study.
November 3, 2011 - Manufacturing Enterprise Solutions Association (MESA) International and Cambashi today announced that managers from a group of varied manufacturer and producer organizations have formed an Industry Council to guide their newly launched research study, Pursuit of Performance Excellence: Business Success through Effective Plant Operations Metrics. This group brings a range of experience and perspectives to the improvement of the study – from continuous process, packaged goods, discrete, and hybrid industries as well as a variety of disciplines from IT, supply chain, continuous improvement and operations. Trent Sunde, VP Operations Services, The Clorox Company explains his willingness to devote time to this study: “Most of the obvious losses have already been harvested. Improving our ability to detect, measure and prioritize the next level of loss provides more improvement runway and, done well, helps link daily operations with corporate strategy.” In addition to Trent Sunde, the Industry Council members include Greg Agnew, Director, A. Schulman; Tony Jenovino, Senior Project Manager (IT), Campbell Soup Company; George Maxson, Database Analyst II, Cormetech; Jian Xu, Director Global Procurement, Technology and Process Optimization, Corn Products International; Alan Wood, Maintenance Planning Supervisor, Longview Power; Steve Kaplan, Global MES Administrator, Murata Power Solutions; Jean-Marie Deschamps, Global IT Leader for Manufacturing Systems, Owens Corning; José Luis Maldonado Ortiz, Automation Specialist, SABMiller; Ted Bobkowski, independent consultant and experienced continuous improvement expert in the food industry; and other managers and executives from a wide array of manufacturing and production companies. Steve Kaplan, Global MES Administrator, Murata Power Solutions says, “As my company expanded from a single US plant to a Global Enterprise company, MESA's international footprint has provided a strong platform for learning about methodologies and metrics. I am on the Industry Council for the MESA Metrics Research Study Pursuing Performance Excellence because it is again at the leading edge of progressive analysis. We at Murata Power Solutions are anxiously awaiting the final results.” The Industry Council has helped to ensure that the Pursuit of Performance Excellence research study is as relevant as possible by guiding the selection of study topics and will also confirm the quality of findings in the final report. The Council vetted the on-line survey to ensure that it covered the most important topics to identify operational metrics that really matter to the success of the overall business. The survey is now open for response through November 14 at this link: http://bit.ly/oYWifJ.
MESA and Cambashi are seeking survey responses from manufacturers and producers in every country in the world, across all production industries. As a thank-you for participating, respondents receive the MESA 2010 Study Summary report Metrics that Matter Revisited, as well as the full findings report for this study when it is available, Pursuit of Performance Excellence. The Industry Council, like MESA’s members, represents companies of all sizes in a wide variety of industry segments ranging from food and beverage to electronics and semiconductor from ceramic industrial equipment to compounds and resins, and from consumer goods to ingredients to power generation. These individuals have all been involved in the deployment of operational metrics systems that drive appropriate behavior in manufacturing plants. Their companies are enjoying increased success as the result of their efforts, and this MESA Metrics Research Study is benefiting from their experience and guidance. Preliminary findings will be released at the MESA European Conference November 9-10, 2011 in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Cambashi’s Tony Christian will lead a special conference session on November 10 to provide a sneak peek of the results of this Pursuit of Performance Excellence study. The same day, he will also facilitate an Unconference participant-driven discussion session on Performance Metrics where all delegates are encouraged to share their questions and their experiences and expertise.
