OSI will provide a SCADA system to monitor power distribution for the campus's 87 buildings.
August 9, 2011 - The Open Systems International (OSI) Campus Management division has been selected by the University of Western Ontario (Western) to provide a new SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system, intended to monitor the power distribution for the campus's 87 buildings, 7,000 space parking lot lighting distribution panels and 17 km of underground cabling. Energy and Power Management for large campuses and universities is a growing area for OSI's Campus Management group. Located along the Thames River in London, Ontario (200 km west of Toronto), Western's campus covers 395 acres and possesses an electrical distribution system comprised of three 28kV/4.16kV Transformer Stations, each supplied by a separate London Hydro feeder. In order to provide increased visibility into Western's campus distribution network, Western will employ a comprehensive SCADA system based on OSI's monarch lite platform, including the advanced functionality of OSI's next-generation, Microsoft .NET based Graphical User Interface (GUI), as well as OSI's Remote Console GUI; Alarm Management; Real-time and Historical Trending; Communications Front-end Processor; Historical Information System and Data Archiving; Operator Calculations; and Switching Order Management products, with an OPC interface to monarch. The University of Western Ontario, the third largest university in Ontario, has a full and part-time enrollment of more than 33,329 graduate and undergraduate students and includes affiliate University Colleges. There are approximately 3,200 Full-Time Staff and Faculty. An additional 5,000 Part-Time Staff and Faculty represent approximately 3,800 Full-Time equivalents. OSI provides open, state-of-the-art and high-performance automation solutions to utilities worldwide. These solutions include Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, Network Management Systems (NMS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), Distribution Management Systems (DMS) and Generation Management Systems (GMS); as well as individual software and hardware products and Smart Grid Solutions for utility operations worldwide.
