June 22, 2011: The OpenADR Alliance, a nonprofit corporation created to foster the development, adoption and compliance of a Smart Grid standard known as Open Automated Demand Response (OpenADR) announced today that Rolf Bienert was named the organizations Technical Director. Most recently Bienert was the Technical Manager for Telecom and the Global Competence Center for emerging communication protocols at TUV Rheinland. In this role at TUV, Bienert was involved in many international standardization efforts and guided the company's efforts in these areas. Bienert has been an active member of the NIST SGTCC, OpenADR Alliance, USNAP Alliance, SunSpec Alliance, ZigBee Alliance, and other organizations driving the development of new technologies with a specific focus on certification and interoperability. In the past, Rolf worked as an Executive Director and Director for Technology Programs. In this position, he worked with several technology communities, and provided a wide variety of operational and strategic responsibilities leveraging his more than 20 years of experience in technology companies. Rolf regularly consulted at the highest levels of consortia leadership. He offered leadership and expertise on strategic planning, program and project management, financial oversight, sales and membership recruitment, product certification, interoperability programs, and board of director operations. Other past engagements include a variety of positions at international technology organizations. Rolf was Division Manager at TUV Rheinland of North America, Inc., and Vice President at KTL, Inc. providing technology and certification services to many international clients. Rolf started his career at Deutsche Telekom in Germany where he was responsible for the implementation of new central office systems and customer service. "I am very pleased to have Rolf on-board to lead the technical activities of the OpenADR Alliance," said Barry Haaser, managing director of the OpenADR Alliance. "Rolf's extensive background developing testing and certification programs and managing industry alliances makes him the ideal candidate to lead the alliance through development of its testing and compliance program." Bienert is responsible for crafting and managing the technical strategy, direction and activities of the OpenADR Alliance. The primary focus involves driving industry adoption of a detailed technology specification based on the OASIS Energy Interop V1.0 work and OpenADR V1.0 specification; and development and implementation of a testing and certification program for hardware and software products conforming to the OpenADR standard. About the OpenADR Alliance OpenADR Alliance is fostering the development, adoption, and compliance of the Open Automated Demand Response (OpenADR) standard through collaboration, education, training, testing, and certification. The OpenADR Alliance intends to work with related organizations such as the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel, Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS), North American Energy Standards Board (NAESB), Utilities Communications Architecture International User's Group (UCAIug), Wi-Fi Alliance, Zigbee Alliance and others as appropriate.
