T√úV S√úD and T√úV Rheinland certified CODESYS Safety products for SIL2 and SIL3 tasks according to IEC 61508.
December 12, 2012 - TÜV SÜD and TÜV Rheinland (German technical supervisory agencies) certified CODESYS Safety products for SIL2 and SIL3 tasks according to IEC 61508. The IEC 61131-3 Development System CODESYS is used for the development of industrial controller applications. Devices programmable with CODESYS V2.3, especially for mobile applications, have already been awarded with a SIL2 certification. With CODESYS V3 3S-Smart Software Solutions now offers three certified Safety products for different Safety tasks. CODESYS Safety SIL2 has been certified by TÜV Süd according to IEC61508 for the development of Safety related software and for the execution of Safety functions. For manufacturers of mobile controllers, this significantly reduces the time necessary for the development and certification of safety controllers. The runtime system has been extended and now includes special safety concepts. It is responsible for executing the Safety function and consists of certified and non-certified parts. Qualified mechanisms for memory protection in CODESYS Safety SIL2 prevent internal backlashes on Safety functions. The runtime system can be ported to different hardware platforms. The system is typically employed on a single-channel architecture and complies to the EN13849 PLd Cat2/3. As the standard development system CODESYS is qualified for SIL2 applications, both safety-related and non-safety-related applications can be developed with one and the same tool. CODESYS Safety simplifies the development and certification of safety controllers according to IEC 61508. TÜV Rheinland has certified the suitability for SIL3 controllers. The system consists of a special safety runtime system for dual-channel hardware which is certified to execute safety applications up to SIL3 according to IEC 61508 and DIN EN ISO 13849 PLe, Category 4. A reference implementation allows a portation to different platforms. After installation of the package, the CODESYS Safety user interface is fully integrated into the standard development system. It contains integrated components such as the FBD Safety editor for programming, PLCopen Safety modules, configurators for Profisafe and FSoE (Fail Safe over EtherCAT) and a versioning of project statuses (Pinning). CODESYS Safety for SIL3 makes it much easier for device manufacturers to have their systems certified. It includes test plans, an integration manual and a user manual. Benefits for users: They can program both safe and non-safe controller applications in one and the same user interface and within a single IEC 61131-3 project. Data exchange is very easy. CODESYS Safety for EtherCAT Safety Module offers a convenient way to develop basic safety applications within the existing controller network. Only requirement: The EtherCAT network of the standard controller must include the certified Safety clamp EL 6900 from Beckhoff. The Safety functions of this clamp can be programmed entirely with the Safety components integrated in CODESYS. The functions include an FBD Safety editor, libraries for the internal Safety software modules and a configurator for FSoE. Due to the integration into the standard development system, data exchange with the EtherCAT compatible standard controller is very easy. The solution is currently being certified by TÜV Süd, the certification process is to be completed by the end of 2012.
