EtherCAT Technology Group continues growth

November 30, 2012 - Even after nine years the EtherCAT Technology Group (ETG) continues to grow: The association has attracted more than 2,200 member companies – and this only two years after it became the world’s largest fieldbus organization with 1,500 members. Within the last 12 months 400 companies have joined in the ETG, underlining that the growth is accelerating even further.

 

To date the members of the EtherCAT Technology Group hail from a total of 56 countries, while Germany – the country where EtherCAT was invented – still represents the largest member group. The U.S. is in second place with Japan and China/Taiwan following with more than 250 member companies each. About a third of all ETG members come from Asia, testifying to the great interest generated by EtherCAT on this continent.

 

Looking at the manufacturers of EtherCAT devices, a similar picture appears: The distribution here is global, too. Not only the number of providers is noteworthy, but so is how the technology is adopted by them. Many manufacturers not only see EtherCAT as another popular bus system for their devices, but go much further and adopt the technology directly as their system bus. Meanwhile 150 manufacturers worldwide offer EtherCAT masters – control systems based on EtherCAT technology.
