December 16, 2013 - Endress+Hauser appoints Bernd-Josef Schäfer Managing Director. His predecessor Dr Gerhard Jost remains as a member of the Executive Board in charge of Endress+Hauser’s production at Group level. Bernd-Josef Schäfer has a doctorate in physics and spent his entire previous professional career with the automotive supply and electronics group Bosch. Since 2008 he has held the position of Senior Vice President of engineering and manufacturing within the electric drives and controls division of Bosch Rexroth in Germany, a function in which he was in charge of 2,300 people worldwide and responsible for sales of around 600 million euros. 50-year-old Schäfer is German citizen, married and father of two grown-up children. In spite of his technical background, the new managing director sees himself as an all-rounder. “I’m thrilled with the idea of building bridges between marketing and sales, research and development right through to worldwide production. My aim is to consolidate and strengthen Endress+Hauser Flowtec’s position in all these fields,” said Bernd-Josef Schäfer. “Mr Schäfer has demonstrated that he sees the bigger picture and that he is capable of successfully managing a complex business, including when times are difficult,” commented Klaus Endress, CEO of the Endress+Hauser Group. Established in 1977, Endress+Hauser Flowtec AG is one of the world’s leading suppliers of flowmeter engineering for process industries. Around 980 people work at the company’s Swiss headquarters in Reinach in production, product management and research and development; other production sites with a total of 670 staff are located in Cernay, France; Greenwood, United States; Aurangabad, India; Suzhou, China; and Itatiba, Brazil. Gerhard Jost continues as a member of the Executive Board Schäfer’s predecessor Gerhard Jost (62) had been Endress+Hauser Flowtec’s managing director since early 2000. He had announced his retirement last year. The engineer with a doctorate degree has been a member of the Executive Board of Endress+Hauser AG since 2009 and will continue in this function with responsibility for the Group’s worldwide production entities. “This means that Endress+Hauser will continue to benefit from Mr Jost’s wealth of knowledge and experience,” said CEO Klaus Endress.
