ISA Process Control & Safety Symposium Agenda

June 5, 2014 -  The International Society of Automation (ISA) today announced the training courses and preliminary technical program for its 2014 Process Control & Safety Symposium, a far-reaching conference and exhibition designed to help process measurement and control professionals in chemical, petrochemical, and energy processing and other process industry sectors operate more safely and securely. Leveraging the global expertise of six ISA technical divisions, the symposium—to be held 7-9 October 2014 in Houston, Texas USA—will illustrate how everyday decisions can have significant downstream results—both positively and negatively—on plant safety and security as well as on key quality and efficiency metrics. A compelling combination of world-class training, expert-led presentations and keynote addresses, paper sessions, tutorials, interactive panel discussions, an expanded vendor exhibit and social events will be offered at the largest and most comprehensive industry gathering ISA has ever conducted in Houston. Four high-value training courses On Monday, 6 October 2014, attendees will have the opportunity to attend up to four essential ISA security and safety courses (and earn valuable CEUs). The four courses are: IC39C-Introduction to the Management of Alarm Systems This course focuses on the key activities of the alarm management lifecycle as outlined in the ANSI/ISA18.00.02 standard, Management of Alarm Systems for the Process Industries. The activities include the alarm philosophy development, alarm rationalization, basic alarm design, advanced alarm techniques, and Human Machine Interface (HMI) design. IC32C- Introduction to Industrial Automation Security and the ANSI/ISA99 (IEC 62443) Standards This seminar covers the basics of the ISA/IEC 62443 standards and how they can be applied in the typical factory or plant. Essential security terminology, concepts, and models will be explained, and the creation of a cybersecurity management system will be examined along with their importance and application to industrial automation and control systems. EC50C- Introduction to Safety Instrumented Systems This popular course answers many common questions relating to the design and selection of a safety instrumented system (SIS), including:

  • Which technology should be used (electric, electronic, or programmable)?
  • What level of redundancy is appropriate (single, dual, or triple)?
  • How often should systems be tested (monthly, quarterly, yearly, or once per shutdown)?
  • What about field devices (technology, level of redundancy, and test intervals)?
