Automation Fair 2015 was described as a showcase of the latest advances in manufacturing and industrial automation enabled by the convergence of information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT). Here are highlights of a few interesting Encompass Partner products.

The 2015 Rockwell Automation Fair was the largest ever with more than 15,000 total attendees, which included more than 8,250 customers. Automation Fair 2015 was described as showcase of the latest advances in manufacturing and industrial automation enabled by the convergence of information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT). The show floor included 139 partners that demonstrated Rockwell Encompass Program Complementary Products, all approved as quality products from reliable suppliers.
The Encompass Program Complementary Products must meet the following criteria:
- Provide functionality not delivered by Rockwell Automation products.
- Enhance and extend the Rockwell’s offerings through built-in connectivity to the Rockwell architecture, or as a critical component to the solution.
- Support industries or applications associated with Rockwell product solutions.
Below are a few products that I found particularly interesting at Automation Fair.
The new Radio Kit is a clever and useful wireless solution to connect digital and analog inputs and outputs without running wires. The Radio Kit is a replacement for hardwired I/O that requires no programming to set up. The radios are paired and secured at the factory therefore there are no settings or configuration. It is bi-directional, so digital and analog signals can be sent in both directions between two connected I/O stations. Inputs on one module are simply replicated as outputs on the corresponding module. Our wireless I/O makes use of the unlicensed ISM band at either 900 MHz or 2.4 GHz, with both US and International versions available. The radios can send I/O up to 4 miles for the 900 MHz or 1 mile for the 2.4 GHz models. Each radio pair can connect up to 16 I/O modules. More Information.
eWON provides a range of industrial VPN routers and remote connectivity products. The eWON Cosy (COmmunication made eaSY) industrial VPN router provides secure remote access across the Internet to machines and installations on customer sites or in the field. This enables users, OEMs and system integrators to troubleshoot machines remotely without going on-site and significantly reducing support costs and resources. The New Generation Cosy131 provides connectivity options for LAN, WIFI, and cellular.
The eWON Flexy data gateway is programmable and provides alarm management and notification, data logging and retrieval, and integrated web server to generate an HMI. eWON also provides Talk2M, a secure industrial connectivity service in the cloud that has servers throughout the world for a highly reliable, efficient and secure solution for connecting to machines remotely. Talk2M gathers thousands of accounts and manages thousands of connections per day including full audit trail connection tracking. More Information.
The Netbiter product provides a gateway for remote management to monitor and control remote installations online. There are Netbiter Argos Services available to meet different user requirements. REMOTE ACCESS opens a secure data tunnel to a PLC or machine for remote programming. VIEW AND CONTROL monitors and controls equipment via online dashboards, trend graphs, and alarms. MANAGE AND ANALYZE manages several sites, equipment and users. Rockwell Automation announced it will use Netbiter EasyConnect gateways as a hardware platform for remote monitoring services for low-voltage and medium voltage drives. More Information.
Endress+Hauser demonstrated a wide range of instrumentation including analyzers. The Endress+Hauser Liquiline System CA80AM is intended for high-precision ammonium measurement. The Liquiline System CA80PH is an online orthophosphate measurement device for precisedosing of precipitants in wastewater treatment. More Information.
The Fluke® TiX560 and TiX520 Infrared Cameras allow thermographers to easily navigate over, under, and around objects to capture images with ease. The units have large screens enabling thermographers to quickly identify issues while still in the field and easily edit images directly on the camera. SuperResolution and advanced focus options further enable thermographers to capture greater detail with higher accuracy to better identify problems. These are part of the Fluke Connect system which allows users to wirelessly transmit measurement data from their test tools to their smart phones and tablets for secure storage on the cloud and universal team access from the field. Fluke Connect with ShareLive video call enables teams to easily share and access infrared inspections on the go and look at trends over time. More Information.
The NetXpert 1400 provides a complete solution for cable qualification and troubleshooting of difficult Ethernet network field problems. Its feature-set is compliant with the IEEE 802.3ab standard and allows for quick and easy verification and documentation of cabling links that support Gigabit Ethernet operation. “Pass/ Fail” results indicate if a cable can support data rates up to 1Gbit/s. Particularly impressive is the unit’s ability to identify the location of cable faults. NetXpert 1400 supports data transmission test for 10 Mbit/s, 100 Mbit/s and 1 Gbit/s. More Information.
Spectrum Controls remote access offering includes WebPort and WebPort Connects, a cloud-based service to deliver end-to-end connectivity, data access, and event notifications. By coupling WebPort and WebPort Connects, the system provides global VPN for remote programming, diagnostics, reporting, alarming, define users and user roles, cloud storage, data logging, data aggregation, and email or SMS notifications. MOLEX offers in-rack CompactLogix and standalone solutions to interface CompactLogix to PROFIBUS DP-V0, DP-V1 networks. The latest SST PROFIBUS solution from Molex offers Master and Slave configurations supporting CompactLogix L2, L3, L4 and L4S processors. The module is fully PI Certified. Integration of PROFIBUS into CompactLogix is accomplished using Rockwell Add On Instructions (AOI). An independent, Ethernet port supports not only configuration, but also diagnostics and an alternative path to backplane connections to the module. Onboard LEDs for LINK, SPEED, SD, OK, STATE, and FAULT are capable of providing 29 visual clues for fault/state The PROFIBUS port has 1,000 volt electrical isolation which gives it high immunity to electrical noise. MOLEX claims the design provides an MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) of 181.2 years at +25ºC. More Information.
