October 20, 2015 – Control Technology Corp. has again expanded the list of supported devices for its Model 5300 Controller EtherCAT Master. Recognizing that customers benefit from multivendor solutions that integrate best-in-class devices, CTC has added Numatics’ 501/G3 Series Valve Drivers and Turck’s BL ident RFID System to its list of supported devices. CTC has fully integrated EtherCAT into its programming environment, QuickBuilder, by pre-engineering support for these and other devices. Play sheets for each device (Numatics 501/G3 Series and Turck’s RFID System) help users quickly set up and begin working with the devices on the EtherCAT network. The system automatically recognizes the devices on the EtherCAT network and automatically configures the master to talk to them. This eliminates the time-consuming and potentially error-prone step of having to use a configurator to set up the network manually. EtherCAT-based drives, I/O points, valve stacks, and RFID components appear in the programming environment along with other drives and I/O on the system. They are easily programmed as though they were local devices. Users can intermix local and remote devices or change a device from local to remote without extensive programming changes. EtherCAT Explorer, a component of the QuickBuilder programming environment, provides a detailed view of the devices on the EtherCAT network. By selecting one of the connected devices within EtherCAT Explorer, users can view the current status and parameters associated with the device. A log of communications transactions sent across the network is available for viewing or download at any time. Supported devices currently include:
