Versatile IXARC Incremental Encoders from POSITAL

The IXARC family of rotary encoders from POSITAL-FRABA has been expanded to include incremental encoders. These new encoders make use of the company’s latest precision magnetic measurement technology and offer outstanding versatility and reliable performance under harsh and demanding conditions.

Incremental encoders generate output signals each time the shaft rotates a certain amount. They are often used in motor controls and other applications where speed measurement is critical. To do this well, incremental encoders need to have excellent dynamic response. While traditionally, magnetic encoders have not had the performance needed for these tasks, POSITAL has overcome this shortcoming.  The company’s new generation of magnetic encoders feature advanced signal processing software running on powerful 32-bit microprocessors. This results in incremental encoders matching the performance of larger, more complex optical encoders – all in a sturdy, compact, cost effective package.

Incremental IXARC encoders are available in thousands of mechanical configurations with HTL (Push-Pull) or TTL (RS422) interfaces, different types of electrical connectors and a wide range of shaft and flange diameters. Heavy-duty models with IP69K-rated housings and seals can stand up to wet and dirty environments – even repeated exposure to water jets from pressure washers. The very simple mechanical components of these encoders also mean that they are highly resistant to shock and vibration loadings. “Unreliable encoders can be a serious problem for machinery that operates in harsh environments”, comments Jarrod Orszulak of POSITAL-FRABA, “Our new incremental encoders offer the best of both worlds: good accuracy and dynamic response combined with excellent physical ruggedness and long-term reliability.”
