December 19, 2013 - Vision Systems releases OnRISC VS-860 Panel PC with Touch Display for industrial applications. The system is based on a modern RISC CPU, Sitara with ARM Cortex-A8 core (600 MHz) built by Texas Instruments. As typical for a RISC PC, the power requirement for VS-860 is quite low, about 10W with active and 5W with inactive display. This low demand allows for operation in an industrial range of operating temperatures, from -10°C (14°F) up to 50°C (122°F), with no fans inside the system. The Panel PC is equipped with an 8 inch display (with LED backlight), using resistive touch function. The resolution of 800*600 is matched for typical tasks in the areas of industrial monitoring and control functions. The front side of the system is classified as IP65, the VS-860 mounts in front walls up to 4mm thickness. Instead of mounting in a front panel it is also possible to use the VESA mount (75*75mm) fixing option. On the rear side of VS-860 access opens to several connectors: 2*LAN, CAN Bus, 2*USB 2.0, 2*serial ports, CFast, SD-Card, audio in- and output. Using those connections direct usage of field buses is possible. Internally the system offers Bluetooth and WLAN or mobile networks (UMTS / LTE) for wireless connectivity. End users may start the Windows CE 6 system from a SD card. The integrated NAND Flash Memory serves as data storage, but allows using it as boot device as well. As alternative Linux is offered in several variants, currently Debian is supported. Android and buildroot are planned, this way system integrators can build compact software packages. Main memory and Flash provide a capacity of 256 MB, each with an option to order 512 MB. Mass storage is on Flash Memory devices (SD and CFast card), the system is fanless, so there are no rotating parts inside. On the front side the user finds the Power button, accompanied by 3 soft- or function keys. These keys have no pre-defined purpose, customers software checks the status and responds to pushing them. Thus the keys add to the flexibility of the system. The Panel PC conforms to the requirements of CE, FCC and RoHS regulations.
