October 17, 2013 - Mosaic Industries releases Thermocouple Measurement Wildcard for measurement of wide ranging temperatures using thermocouples of any type. Accurate temperature measurement requires:
- low-noise high-resolution acquisition of thermocouple voltage,
- measurement of a cold junction temperature,
- proper compensation by the cold junction voltage, and
- applying an accurate curve-fit model to transform the compensated thermocouple voltage into a temperature.
The Thermocouple Measurement Wildcard and its pre-coded software driver library perform all these functions to simplify temperature measurement in any instrument control application. The Thermocouple Measurement Wildcard features a 16-bit resolution A/D and cold junction compensation using either the LT1025 cold junction compensation IC or a precision thermistor. Available in two versions: single-channel and dual-channel, it precisely transduces temperature from one or two thermocouples of any type. A single-channel version includes a board-mounted thermistor for very accurate cold junction compensation, delivering one temperature measurement channel accurate to ±0.1°C without the need for calibration. A dual-channel version uses a cold junction compensation IC for two thermocouples. This chip provides temperature measurement over wide ranges with cold junction compensation accurate to ±0.5°C (typical), and ±2°C (maximum) at 25°C. A Mosaic controller (PDQ Board or QCard) can host up to eight Thermocouple Measurement Wildcards, or they can be mixed and matched with any of the growing family of Mosaic Wildcards to create a powerful custom off-the-shelf data acquisition system. This modular design allows the Thermocouple Measurement Wildcard to be used as part of an embedded control system in a remote measurement application over Ethernet or wireless connection.
