June 26, 2013 - ProSoft Technology released a new wireless solution, the 802.11abgn Fast Roam Industrial Hotspot.
The Fast Industrial Hotspot provides secure and reliable wireless solutions for plant-floor, SCADA automation, process control systems and mobile worker Wi-Fi infrastructure. It operates in the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz bands, including DFS channels. The Hotspot supports Access Point, Repeater, Bridging and Client modes. 802.11n technology delivers fast data rates up to 300Mbps supporting demanding wireless applications such as Ethernet I/O and high resolution video. It also provides excellent packet-per-second performance and robust communications in rugged industrial environments.
ProSoft Technology's unique Fast Roam feature seamlessly supports wireless communications to moving machines and platforms by providing access point switchover times of less than 50 ms. Fast Roam maintains seamless, high speed connections to one or more devices on moving equipment and machines (such as cranes, AGVs and carriers) as they travel between Master radios.
“We are very excited with the new possibilities that Fast Roaming will bring in Korea,” said Kuan Chee Choun, Sales and Technical Manager for ProSoft Technology’s Asia Pacific Region. “Our customers can now have their mobile equipment move from one zone to another, and from one building to another, while maintaining their wireless connections. We can’t wait to see how our customers and engineering partners will use this new technology.”
Recently, Prosoft Technology successfully deployed 2 of these unique Hotspots which functioned as wireless access points, connecting 25 miles (40Km) in Australia without any bridge or repeater in between.
“This new family of Industrial Hotspots offer the latest advancements in Ethernet packet handling, Fast Roam technology and industrial ruggedness, which ensures reliable, high-speed wireless performance for critical automation systems and control processes,” said Jim Ralston, Wireless Product Manager for ProSoft Technology.
In addition, Ralston said, they offer comprehensive RF (radio frequency) diagnostic and wireless network configuration tools, reducing field deployment and troubleshooting time.
The Fast Roaming Hotspot is also designed to survive in harsh environments and is ATEX certified. With its disaster recovery feature, users can utilize the microSD card when replacing a damaged Hotspot without reprogramming software.
