January 2, 2013 — AAEON released two compact Embedded Servers, the AIS-E1 and AIS-E2, for Building Automation, Factory Automation, and IP Surveillance. Designed with upgradable socket type multi-core Intel Core iSeries processors under 45W, these embedded servers offer performance and multiple high definition video playbacks, while consuming very little power.
The AIS-E1 embedded server supports 2nd Generation Intel Core i7/ i5/ Celeron processors, with a built in Intel QM67 chipset and supports two 204-pin dual-channel DDR3 1066/1333/1600 MHz SODIMM, up to 16GB. Featuring superior connectivity with six USB2.0 ports, dual displays via VGA, LVDS as well as DVI-D, HDMI supporting full HD dual display, two Gigabit Ethernet, one COM port (expandable to six), three audio ports, two KB/MS ports, the AIS-E1 provides fast connectivity for enhanced efficiency with rich I/Os. The AIS-E1 offers four 2.5” HDD/SSD, supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, plus one onboard CFast SSD and one Slim ODD bay. Optional wireless features can be added via a PCIe 3.0 mini-Card slot that supports 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0. With 12V DC-in and measuring at 315mm x 70mm x 300mm, the desktop AIS-E1 offers both performance and rich features for most automation requirements.
The AIS-E2 embedded server is an upgraded version of AIS-E1, built to be more compact at only 195mm x 70mm x 220mm. The AIS-E2 supports 3rd Generation Intel Core i7/ i5/ Celeron processors, with built in Intel QM77 chipset and supports two 204-pin dual-channel DDR3 1066/1333/1600 MHz SODIMM, up to 16GB. Most of the connectivity remains the same as the AIS-E1 model, except for four faster 5Gb/sec USB3.0 ports, one additional Display Port and supports a maximum of two 2.5” HDD/SSD, due to its smaller enclosure. The smaller dimension of the AIS-E2 makes it easier for installation in places or within systems with space constraints.
For effective remote device management, the free AAEON Hi-Manager program can be installed on each deployed AIS embedded server, allowing BIOS-level remote management from a remote console. Hi-Manager can also be installed on an AIS embedded server to monitor other AAEON devices. For individual device monitoring, the free Hi-Safe program with its user-friendly monitoring interface can be installed.
The AAEON Hi-Manager is a powerful tool based on the Intel Active Management Technology 8.0 (iAMT 8.0) and has backward compatibility with earlier versions of iAMT. This allows users to locate all iAMT devices in the intranet, power, set and manage On/Off target devices remotely, recover systems, remote KVM management and access to target device hardware information for asset management. Hi-Manager can be installed on all AAEON platforms and can remotely manage AAEON client devices that use Intel QM77, QM67 and QM57 chipsets and run Microsoft Windows XP, Window 7/8 Operating Systems.
AAEON Hi-Safe is a free and powerful hardware-based program geared toward SDKs for UIs running Microsoft Windows Operating systems. It provides an easy way to develop the end user’s own UI software to monitor vital system information such as those for the processor, RAM and VGA. It monitors received data from the Super I/O, fan, temperature and voltage, offers configuration options for Digital I/O pin direction and data, provides watchdog timer and fan speed settings, SMBus base address detection and device ID settings, optional monitoring of UPS data information and offers two modes for backlight display control if one uses the LVDS interface. Based on the user interface SDK, no coding is needed and customers can create their own customized user interface by downloading the function codes provided by AAEON.
