October 23, 2012 - POSITAL updates PROFINET IRT-enabled encoders. Enhancements include support for the manufacturer-specific telegram 860 that allows for an especially easy adjustment of the preset value – similar to Profibus systems – via a control bit in the position value. The devices now also support the N2/N4 standardization of speed units for motion control drives.
The encoders support IRT, RT, and NRT data transfer (isochronous real-time / real-time / non-real-time) according to the V4 encoder profile, and achieve cycle times as low as 1 ms. They are parameterized via the control system; a GSDML device file facilitates the configuration. Existing Profibus systems can be easily migrated to the new standard, since the device profile management has been retained. An integrated switch automatically recognizes crossover or standard Ethernet cable connections. Limited installation space poses no problem for users, since the encoders measure a mere 58 mm in diameter.
The PROFINET IO models use an opto-electronic scanning method to determine position values. The single-turn sensor provides a resolution of 16 bit per revolution. In addition, a maximum of 16,384 revolutions (14 bit) can be registered in multi-turn mode, thereby covering a measuring range of 30 bit.
