April 23, 2012 - SEW-EURODRIVE added DCS 22B and 32B to its MOVISAFEsafety monitor series. These two different DCS B card versions offer reliable protection for personnel and machinery. They are easily integrated into the drive systems together with motor encoder combinations and perfectly matched configuration and parameter setting tools. SEW-EURODRIVE has expanded its DCS B series of integrated MOVISAFEsafety monitors. DCS B cards assure safe motion functions with and without safe positioning. Different versions are available according to price and technology level. The MOVISAFEDCS B series complies with the safety level SIL3 and PL e, which represent the highest level of safety. The modules integrate fully with the MOVIDRIVEB application-specific frequency inverter. They are compact and easy to retrofit. The new additions to the MOVISAFEproduct portfolio are the DCS 22B and 32B versions for safe motion monitoring of servo and asynchronous drives. They process TTL, HTL, SSI, Hiperface, SIN/COS, CAN, and Resolver encoder protocols. The 22 version can also be connected to a safety controller using the safe PROFIsafe fieldbus. Used in combination with safety-rated motor encoders, MOVISAFEsafety modules are able to perform a variety of safety functions, including safe limited speed (SLS), safe direction (SDI), and safe operating stop (SOS) with an encoder up to Performance Level d (PL d). Background Whether scara robot, palletizer, handling gantry, or storage/retrieval system – many industrial applications require reliable drive safety. The MOVISAFEseries of safety modules ensures reliable monitoring of drive function at the axis level according to DIN EN 61800-5-2, for example in handling applications, and thus enables work to be conducted in hazardous areas under the highest safety requirements according to EN ISO 13849-1 Performance Level e (PL e). Response times in emergencies are significantly reduced through the continuous, reliable speed monitoring as well as monitoring of the motion functions and position range of the axes. These modules also make many mechanical protection devices unnecessary. The output signals can be optionally forwarded to a safety PLC, which can switch off the inverter for safety reasons in the event of a fault. The moving drive is stopped true to path using a parameterized rapid stop, and the safe torque off (STO) is activated after a delay. This allows the axes to come to a standstill at a defined location and permits their direct reactivation without requiring referencing once again.
